The Weekend

The Weekend

Race-weekend coverage across all seven core series. Friday previews, qualifying recaps, race-day analysis, Monday tech reviews. What the on-track product actually told us, written within hours of the chequered flag.

  1. A Toyota Hypercar takes the chequered flag at Barcelona with its sister car close behind and a GT car further back, as the crew celebrate along the pit wall and a packed grandstand looks on, drawn in ink.

Toyota took the WEC manufacturers' title with a 0.583-second one-two at Barcelona, and left its own two crews 17 points apart for Monza

The #8 Toyota of Buemi, Hartley and Hirakawa won the first 6 Hours of Barcelona by 0.583 seconds from the #7, with a five-second penalty served on the way. Toyota is 58 points clear of BMW with 44 left to score, and the drivers' title is now a fight between two Toyotas at Mike Conway's last race.

  2. Two-tone hatched-ink illustration of three MotoGP bikes leaning nose to tail through a corner at Mandalika, Aprilia number 72 leading number 25, with INDONESIA lettered along the wall and a packed grandstand behind the fence.

Bezzecchi led Aprilia's first one-two-three-four at Mandalika, and Martin took the MotoGP lead back by two points

Marco Bezzecchi passed Raul Fernandez, riding hurt after a Sprint crash, on lap 19 of 27 and won. Jorge Martin's third place put him back ahead of Marc Marquez, who had won the Sprint after Martin sat up with four laps left. Five rounds remain and the gap is the two points it was on Friday.

  3. Two-tone hatched-ink illustration of a Ferrari pit stop at night at Marina Bay, crew changing the tyres on car number 16 under the FERRARI garage sign while a second crew waits with wheel guns beside stacked tyres and a lit VSC board, Marina Bay Sands and the Singapore Flyer behind.

Verstappen won Singapore by 7.335s from pole, and Ferrari explained Hamilton's missing pit stop two different ways

Max Verstappen took Sprint pole, the Sprint, Grand Prix pole and the Grand Prix at Marina Bay for his 73rd win, at his 250th start. Ferrari called both cars in under the second Virtual Safety Car and only Charles Leclerc came. Kimi Antonelli left Singapore 102 points clear with six rounds to run.

  4. Two-tone hatched-ink illustration of a Formula 1 grid in a tropical downpour, cars sheltered under gazebos held by mechanics in rain capes, tyre blankets soaked, a medical car creeping along the flooded straight with its lights on, and packed grandstands under leaf-shaped roofs behind Sepang International Circuit hoardings.

Verstappen won Red Bull's first race of 2026 at Sepang, and Russell's Mercedes stopped from third behind the Safety Car

Max Verstappen beat Kimi Antonelli by 2.307 seconds in a Bahrain Grand Prix run in Malaysia after a formation lap the FIA had to abandon. George Russell was running third when his Mercedes stopped after 49 laps, and Antonelli left Malaysia 84 points ahead of him with seven rounds to run.

  5. Two-tone hatched-ink illustration of a pit lane halted in a thunderstorm, a prototype and GT cars lined up under rain covers and umbrellas with crews hunched beside them, a marshal in a rain cape standing by the pit-exit light, and lightning forking over wooded hills beyond the floodlit track.

Vanthoor held off a BMW by 1.205 seconds to give Porsche its first prototype win at Petit Le Mans

Porsche Penske won a ten-hour race interrupted by 16 full-course cautions and a lightning red flag. Jack Aitken clinched the GTP title by taking the start, and Acura signed off its paused programme from pole with sixth.

  6. Two-tone hatched-ink illustration of a rally car numbered 99 beached in the scrub on a sandy bank, its door open and a helmeted crew member pushing at the rear, dust hanging behind, spectators hurrying down the slope and a marshal with a flag above a gravel road that drops to a beach and the sea.

Solberg won Sardinia by 57.6 seconds and lost the world title by five points on the season's last stage

Elfyn Evans finished fifth in Rally Italia Sardegna, nearly five minutes back after a puncture on the penultimate stage, and is world champion with Scott Martin. Oliver Solberg needed only to beat him on the Power Stage, was quicker at the splits, and went off in the final stretch.

  7. Two-tone hatched-ink illustration from a Formula 1 cockpit on a Baku street straight, the driver's gloved hands on a steering wheel whose display shows no safety car message, the halo pillar framing a car ahead, as marshals on a post beside the barrier wave a flag and hold up a board lettered SC.

Baku's marshals showed Safety Car boards with no Safety Car out, and the stewards still penalised Bortoleto for the yellow flags beside them

FIA Document 68 accepts that marshal posts between Turns 6 and 7 displayed "SC" boards while Race Control had deployed no Safety Car. It clears Gabriel Bortoleto of passing under a Safety Car and gives him 10 seconds for passing Sergio Perez under the waved yellow flags shown with the boards.

  8. Two-tone hatched-ink illustration of a Formula 2 car at the Baku pit entry, its front wing reaching over the painted white line as rubber dust lifts from the asphalt, beside a pit entry sign and barriers lettered Baku City Circuit and FIA Formula 2 Championship, with a marshal leaning over the wall and the crenellated old city walls behind.

Alex Dunne crossed the line first in Baku and finished third, and the white line at the pit entry cost him ten points

Formula 2 ran three races at Baku instead of two, and produced three different winners. Dunne won Feature Race 1 from pole and led Feature Race 2 to the flag, then dropped to third on a five-second penalty. Rafael Camara inherited the win and turned a one-point championship lead into seven.

  9. Two-tone hatched-ink illustration of the No. 8 Toyota and the No. 36 Alpine Hypercars racing side by side on a wet Fuji Speedway straight, spray lifting from their tyres, with FIA World Endurance Championship boards, a pit entry sign, a marshal post and a packed grandstand beside the track and snow-capped Mount Fuji behind.

Toyota won its home six hours on tyres it did not change, by 0.591 seconds, after every qualifying session was cancelled

The #8 Toyota was running sixth when the final-hour Safety Car came out at Fuji, and had already been spun round. It stayed out on used rubber under the last Safety Car, took a short fuel load, and beat the #36 Alpine by 0.591 seconds. Hirakawa, Buemi and Hartley now lead the FIA World Endurance Championship.

  10. Two-tone hatched-ink illustration of two Formula 1 cars numbered 63 and 3 racing nose to nose down Baku's main straight, a marshal on a post above the barrier waving a flag over a packed, fenced grandstand, with the Flame Towers and the stone battlements of the old city behind.

Russell had Baku won from pole, and a last-lap yellow nearly handed it to Verstappen on the final straight

George Russell took pole, the win and the fastest lap at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, then lifted for a yellow on the final lap and had no turbo out of the last corner. He beat Max Verstappen by 0.196 seconds. Kimi Antonelli came from 16th to fifth and still lost 15 points of his lead.
